It's the most famous balneal health resort of the Ukrainian Zakarpatie. It's situated in the foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains at a high of 400 meters in mountain slopes covered with oak and fir-tree forests. More than 20 sanatoria, boarding houses and hotels are situated here.
The climate is temperately continental. Winter is mild, the average air temperature of January is 60C below zero. Summer is warm, cloudy days alternate with fine days, the average air temperature of July is 200C above zero. Autumn is warm and dry. The number of sunshine hours - 2000 per year.
For treating patients the unique weakly mineralized hydrocarbonate-sulphate calcium-magnesium-sodium water with high contents of organic substances of the "Naphtusya" spring is used.
The organic substances contained in the water (naphtens, humins, bitumens and phenols) are readily absorbed in blood in the stomach and upper sections of the jejunum and increase urination, stimulate the elimination of urinary sand and small concrements, dissolve and eliminate mucus from the urinary tract. They intensify mineral metabolism and the absorption of water from the intestines and stimulate detoxication of toxins in the liver, activate intestinal microflora and promote production of antibacterial and biologically active components. This water is recommended for treatment by drinking in cases of chronic diseases of kidneys and the urinary tract, of the liver and for treatment of obesity.
For treatment of patients with diseases of the stomach and intestines the carbonaceous mineral waters of 24 springs situated in the environments of Truskavets are also used, and for treatment of patients with diseases of joints - the applications of mineral wax - ozokerite of the Borislavskoye deposit. The guests of Truskavets and tourists have the opportunity of enjoying interesting walks in the town and its picturesque vicinities - forests on the mountain slopes.
