National Park "Plescheyevo Lake"

Plescheyevo <b>Lake</b>National Park "Plescheyevo Lake" was established on September 26, 1988 by a decree of the Government of Russian Federation.

In 1998 by the Decision of the Government of Russian Federation N 777 from 17.07.98 "About national park "Plescheyevo Lake" the park was renamed into national park "Plescheyevo Lake". It was recognized as especially protected territory of federal value and transferred to management of Federal service of a forestry of Russia.

On December 31, 1998 the Regulations about national park, as nature protection establishment of federal value are authorized. Borders are specified, the territory of city of Pereslavl - Zalessky is excluded from borders of national park.

In 2000 National Park "Plescheevo Lake" has passed into the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.

The park has an area of 23790 hectares: 15271 ha - forest area, 5963 ha - water area, 554 ha - lands for agricultural purpose, and other.

The national park is situated in territory of Pereslavl munipal district of Yaroslavl region, in the central part of Russian plain, in the pool of the Verkhnyaya Volga river.

There are 7 natural monuments, 8 archeological monuments, 22 historical monuments and 94 architectural monuments within the park.

The National Park is very rich in floraflora and faunafauna. 710 species of plants grow there; 35 of them are registered in the Red Book of Russia.

There are 60 species of wild animals, including the protected maral deer, roe and flying squirrels.

There are also 210 species of birds, among them are the quite rare gray heron, gray goose, whooping swan and gray crane.

There are 16 species of fish, including the Ryapushka, or "Tzar's herring."
