Byelorussians (their self-name is the Belarusy), together with the Russians and Ukrainians belong to the Eastern Slavs. In the Russian Federation there are 1206,2 thousand persons of the Byelorussians. They are the indigenous population of Byelorussia. They live also in Ukraine, in Kazakhstan, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, USA, Canada and other countries. Byelorussian language belongs to the East subgroup of Slavic group of the Indo- European families of languages. The Byelorussians are basically the Orthodox, and the Catholics and the Uniats by religion. |
